The Enterprise City Council met in special session on Friday, November 7, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. Those present were Councilors Larry Christman, Stacey Karvoski, Jenni Word, and Laura Miller; Fire Chief Paul Karvoski; Admin. Assist. Lacey McQuead.

Council President Miller opened the special meeting at 5:19 p.m.

Paul Karvoski explained to the Council that the purpose of the meeting was to decide whether or not to move forward on replacing the 1968 Dodge Tender that is out of use. Paul explained it was not feasible to attempt to fix and repair parts on the tender and purchasing the 1997 Freightliner Pierce Pump was the best option.

Cost breakdown

            -Unit $79,000

            -Shipping Estimated at $8,000-$10,000

-New equipment purchase for truck estimated around $2,000

Paul Karvoski explained that if purchased new, this Freightliner could cost anywhere from $200,000-$225,000.

Councilor Miller asked if this is the same truck that would be coming from the college. Paul answered yes explaining this was the truck that is located at a college. This college has a fire curriculum in which they used the Freightliner for education purposes and the only fire it has been on is training fires. It is in Tennessee.

Councilor Christman made a motion to buy the 1997 Freightliner. Councilor Word seconded the motion, motion passed unanimously.

Councilor Miller felt it necessary to make a motion to approve a higher loan amount, if needed. Council Christman agreed and made a motion to approve a loan up to $81,000 if necessary, in order to have funds available for any equipment that might have to be purchased. Councilor Word seconded that motion. Motion passed unanimously

Councilor Christman stated for the record that Councilor Coffin and Mayor Shaw both support this purchase.

Councilor Christman made a motion to move forward with the loan directing the City Administrator to execute the contract to purchase and authorizing the Mayor and City Administrator to sign for the loan. Motion was seconded by Councilor Miller.  Motion passed unanimously.

Councilor Miller stated that the City Attorney, Roland Johnson, has looked over the contract and after making a couple adjustments, does agree with the contract.
